The Hard Taco Project
is a Simple Concept

I will write and record one song a month,
every month, until I am dead

I have been doing this since
1993 and so far my health is good.

Impossible

Download Song

Impossible
You and I are impossible
Don’t ask why, we’re impossible
Every day, a new obstacle
When we stay together

It’s too impractical
Our love’s just too theatrical
But this play is unwatchable
It’s not only impractical
It’s impossible

Licking your elbow
Improbable
Training a penguin to fly
Clapping one-handed
Or factoring pi
All are implausible, but you and I are

Impossible
Truth be told, we’re impossible
Our love’s cold as a popsicle
Let’s just fold, we’re impossible
As a troll sunbathing
In a hospital

For alas! You’re irascible
Like the Styx is uncrossable
Or crevasses impassable
You’re impossible

Teleportation
Improbable
Breeding a mule with another
Perpetual motion or
Not turning into your mother
Dancing en pointe without any legs
Unburning toast
Uncracking eggs
Teaching a yak to be fluent in Greek
Time-travelling back to the previous week
Sneezing eyes open while taking a leak
None of these is so absurdly uniquely
Impossible

You were once so caressable
It was just inexpressible
Is the reason unguessable
That we’re so unredressable
I would have a lobectomy
Live stream my colonoscopy
If that’s what you’d expect of me
If you wouldn’t be lost to me
If I begged you come back to me
Any chance you’d say… possibly?
Can’t you please just say… possibly?

Possible
I just know that we’re possible
Odds are low but still possible
Don’t let go if it’s possible

I'm Too Tired

Download Song

Monday at midnight last week
I called up the plumber ‘cause the faucet had a leak
The plumber said
No way
I’m too tired to plumb today
Plumb today, plumb today
Who’d have ever thought it that a plumber would say
Carolina China Vietnam Bombay

Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na

Tuesday morning at a quarter past two
I called up the lawyer ‘cause I had a guy to sue
The lawyer said
No way
I’m too tired to lawy today
Lawy today, lawy today
Plumb today, plumb today
Who’d have ever thought it that a lawyer would say
Albuquerque Turkey
Carolina China Vietnam Bombay

Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na

Tuesday morning at 3 am
I called up the butcher ‘cause I didn’t have a ham
The butcher said
No way
I’m too tired to butch today
Butch today, butch today
Lawy today, lawy today
Plumb today, plumb today
Who’d have ever thought it that a butcher would say
Ghana Tijuana
Albuquerque Turkey
Carolina China Vietnam Bombay

Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na

Wednesday morning at 4:15
I called up my mother ‘cause I had a bad dream
My mother said
No way
I’m too tired to mothe today
Mothe today, mothe today
Butch today, butch today
Lawy today, lawy today
Plumb today, plumb today
Who’d ever thought it that a mother would say
Cuba and Aruba
Ghana Tijuana
Albuquerque Turkey
Carolina China Vietnam Bombay

Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na

Peepholes Are Peepholes

Download Song

Bow blucka boom
Boom blucka bow
Lord, I would maroon you
If I only knew how
Boom blucka bow
Bow blucka boom
This resignation letter is directed to whom?
But in any case
I’ll have one less thing to fret about
When you get about a million miles out of my face

Quack quack

Got a good-old-boy charm
Got a pocket full of org charts
And I’m one bannister ride from a whole new floor
From a whole new floor
Oh ee oh ee oh
I can pepper my prose with aplomb
But I’m not above greasing a palm
Greasing a palm or two

All the rhythm’s in my wrists
I’m like, “I do not dance so good.”
She’s like, “You’re wrong.
You do not dance so well.”

Peepholes are peepholes
Necessary evils
I see some people
And I want to leave ‘em on the porch

Two three four
Bow blucka boom
Boom blucka bow
Lord, I would maroon you
If I only knew how
Boom blucka bow, yeah
Bow blucka boom
This resignation letter is directed to whom?
But in any case
I’m gonna have one less thing to fret about
When you get about a million miles out of my face

Quack quack
Quack quack quack

Pompon
You’re hot stuff with a Pompon
On the wrong sideline and I’m
One calendar page from a calendar page from a beautiful sunset
Oh ee oh ee oh
It’s like I’ve never south of the bridge
Damn. I really need to get out more
All the color’s out of my face
I’m like, “I do not feel so good.”
She’s like, “You’re wrong.
You do not feel so well.”

Peepholes are peepholes
Necessary evils
I see some people
And I want to leave ‘em on the porch

Billion Lines of Code

Download Song

Input = song one has heard
Output = nod semi-rhythmically
Billion lines of code
Align just so
Synchronize
It’s a miracle

Function = favorable mate
Output = launch show-off protocol
Billion lines of code
Align just so
Make eyes
It’s a miracle
It’s a miracle

I’m crashing, I’m swearing
I’m a syntax error
I’m a tragic anomaly
I can’t run, run, run
Guess I’ll keep plugging, chugging in vain
Debugging, I swear I’ll fix me eventually
I’m gonna run
Gonna run, run, run
Ru-ru-ru-run

If self-doubt > 1
GOTO terminate social acumen
Billion lines of code
Align just so
Breakdown
It’s a miracle
It’s a miracle

Take the weekend off to reboot
Output = reset all variables
Billion lines of code
Align just so
Unplug
It’s a miracle
It’s a miracle
