The Hard Taco Project
is a Simple Concept

I will write and record one song a month,
every month, until I am dead

I have been doing this since
1993 and so far my health is good.

April Showers

Download Song

Everyone else is done with their Spring cleaning,
And everyone else got Summertime in June,
And I can't abide songs with hidden meaning,
And even if I could, I still couldn't sing in tune.
But something turned besides the yellow tassel,
A dry salute to paradise misplaced,
Where half of Prince Charming tends to half his castle,
And the other halves of both just go to waste.

I know you thought better things
Would happen after Spring,
But April showers bring May flowers
And who knows what those might bring
No refuge comes in my prepaid oasis,
'Cause I know Lady Justice on a first name basis.

I'll wait here forever.
Surround myself with things that remind me
That someday you'll remember
And when you do I hope you can find me.

I love the way you soothe me when I'm tired,
And transform devotions into lullabies,
Then you wave your hand and paint yourself desired
So that I can read the music in your eyes.
A seasoned love replaced with expectation,
You're Lady of the Lake with sword in hand.
But purgatory comes before salvation
And the desert stretch precedes the Promised Land.

I know you thought better things
Would happen after Spring,
But April showers bring May flowers
And who knows what those might bring
Trepidation whispered in the martyr's journal,
And bellowed Summer's wish of love that Spring's eternal.

I'll wait here forever
Surround myself with things that remind me
That someday don't mean never
When someday comes I know you will find me
I know you will find me.

Angus

SEA GRANNY SONG
Old woman shut your wrinkled flap,
We will not fall into your trap.
You're old, you stink, you need a nap,
The Angus we don't fear.

The Angus hold a lot of clout,
But all we really care about
Is snapper, whitefish, carp and trout
And bass.

And hooks and worms and rods and baits,
And lines and nets and prawns and weights
So take your tales and shove them up your
ANGUS! ANGUS! ANGUS!

ANGUS ARE WE
Angus are we,
We plunder the sea
We come to drink your wine
Slaughter your women and ravish your cattle.

Angus are we,
We plunder the sea
We come to drink your wine
Slaughter your women and ravish your cattle.

RUSTY AND LASLO'S LOVE SONG
Rusty:
Laslo, your people came to torture me,
But Laslo, your beauty set my heart a-free.
Laslo:
Rusty, your babies skulls I've come to crush
And Rusty, embalming you was such a rush.
Both:
And now that we're together
I can smell the bitter yell of bigotry!

ANGUS BATTLE CHANT
We...
We are the breastplate of the sea.
Flee...
Me!

Alpha Mom

Download Song

From "Approach Approach Conflict"

Your nursery needs
A helping hand
A pity it's no better
An idiot would buy that brand
No, idiots know better, better

Hey, I'm the alpha mom
To wreck your home
I've got to wreck your kitchen
Bring your station wagons round
'Cause this star needs wagons to hitch onto
Yeah, I'm the alpha mom
The alpha mom
And I'm a peach pied piper
And I demand the following:
A following to swallow my demands

Pow!

Who puts the "pow" in powder puff
Who sees "a plan" in seaplane
Pow!
Whose book is How to Strut Your Stuff
From the HOV Lane

Yeah, Pow!
I'm the alpha mom
To wreck your home
I've got to wreck your kitchen
Bring your station wagons round
'Cause this star needs wagons to hitch onto
Yeah, I'm the alpha mom
The alpha mom
And I'm a peach pied piper
And I demand the following:
A following to swallow my demands

Pow! Pow!
I'm the alpha mom
The alpha momma's
On a boutique mission
Bring your little red wagons round
'Cause this star needs wagons to hitch onto
Yeah, I'm the alpha mom
The alpha mom
And I'm a peach pied piper
And I demand the following:
A following to swallow all of my demands

Allegory

Download 2000 Version from "Soft Taco"

Download 1993 Version from "Beowulf: The Rock Opera"

Each of us is the hero of the sun,
Each of us the deadly mistletoe.
Each of us is the rainbow guardian
Each of us the winter fire we bury in the snow.

Whoa... the sun is sinking low
But baby, time is not the only,
The only one who's leaving.
Whoa... but everywhere I go
I'll take some comfort in the knowledge
Calliope's still breathing!

Da da da da....

Each of us is the soldier who abandons his own king,
Each of us the friendly trubadour.
Each of us is the god or gods about which men will sing
Each of us our own device, an extended metaphor.

Whoa... we struggle to restore
The closet poetry of childhood,
The epic of transcendence.
Whoa... it seems so long ago
But what's a century of waiting
For terminal dependence

Whoa... the sun is sinking low
But baby, time is not the only,
The only one who's leaving.
Whoa... but everywhere I go
I'll take some comfort in the knowledge
Calliope's still breathing!
Still breathing...
