From "Beowulf: The Rock Opera"

Narrator: The next morning, the news of slaughter reached Hrothgar, who immediately put a high price on Grendel's head. Outside of Heorot, a gathering of bounty hunters lined up in front of Hrothgar to take their turn at fighting Grendel, who crouched warily inside the mead hall, preparing his defense.

Thane 1:
Don't you worry, Hrothgar
I'll slay the vile beast.

Hrothgar:
Thank you, sir and hurry back,
We'll give you quite a feast.
Isn't it just wonderful
The way that he's so brave

Aeschere:
Good of you to say, my liege,
We'll write that on his grave.

Thane 2:
Don't you worry, Horthgar,
I'll show this thing who's boss.

Hrothgar:
Thank you, and be careful...
Your friend was quite a loss.
Aren't you overwhelmed
With just how boldly he attacked

Aeschere:
Almost made it through the door
With most of him intact.

Hrothgar and Aeschere:
So we'll pray and we'll pray
For our victory today.
We'd fight the beast, ourselves, you see,
But we're to old and grey.
And it only is appropriate
In such a fight we may,
We may just lose a couple men along the way.

Thane 3:
Don't you worry, Horthgar,
I'll slay the fiend somehow.

Hrothgar:
Thank you, brave retainer
It should be full by now.
I pray that he'll come back to us,
His death would be our third.

Aeschere:
Well, at least his head came back
Your prayer was partly heard.

Thane 1:
Don't you worry, Hrothgar,
This Grendel's ass is mine!

Hrothgar:
All the rest have died so far,
But we're sure you'll do fine.
Thanes as brave as he is
Should be held in high regard.

Aeschere:
If he weren't dead I'd tell him
Thanks for trying so darn hard.

Hrothgar and Aeschere:
So we'll pray and we'll pray
For our victory today.
We'd fight the beast, ourselves, you see,
But we're to old and grey.
And it only is appropriate
In such a fight we may,
We may just lose a couple men along the way.
