Everyone else is done with their Spring cleaning,
And everyone else got Summertime in June,
And I can't abide songs with hidden meaning,
And even if I could, I still couldn't sing in tune.
But something turned besides the yellow tassel,
A dry salute to paradise misplaced,
Where half of Prince Charming tends to half his castle,
And the other halves of both just go to waste.
I know you thought better things
Would happen after Spring,
But April showers bring May flowers
And who knows what those might bring
No refuge comes in my prepaid oasis,
'Cause I know Lady Justice on a first name basis.
I'll wait here forever.
Surround myself with things that remind me
That someday you'll remember
And when you do I hope you can find me.
I love the way you soothe me when I'm tired,
And transform devotions into lullabies,
Then you wave your hand and paint yourself desired
So that I can read the music in your eyes.
A seasoned love replaced with expectation,
You're Lady of the Lake with sword in hand.
But purgatory comes before salvation
And the desert stretch precedes the Promised Land.
I know you thought better things
Would happen after Spring,
But April showers bring May flowers
And who knows what those might bring
Trepidation whispered in the martyr's journal,
And bellowed Summer's wish of love that Spring's eternal.
I'll wait here forever
Surround myself with things that remind me
That someday don't mean never
When someday comes I know you will find me
I know you will find me.
